Color as Strategy

As architect licensed in Brazil, member of the design team for the City of Barueri – SP, a public institution dedicated to serving the community and managing public funds responsibly, I consistently faced the challenge of working with very limited budgets.

Given the constraints on using high-end materials, we embraced the use of vibrant colors through paint as a key architectural strategy to transform the urban neighborhood. This approach not only revitalized public buildings during renovation processes but also established a visual identity system for the city.

By incorporating color into schools, green squares, and other public facilities — whether through artistic murals or targeted interventions — we enabled the community to instantly recognize the presence of these public assets within the urban fabric. This simple, accessible, and cost-effective solution ultimately became a hallmark of the local administration at the time, contributing to the development of a distinctive and recognizable architectural identity for the city of Barueri.
